SEN schools

Our SEN specialist positions require specific experience and qualifications, with some schools also happy to consider individuals looking to move to work within special educational needs.

Special Educational Needs (SEN) affect a child’s ability to learn. These can include their:

  • Behaviour or ability to socialise
  • Reading and writing, e.g. dyslexia
  • Ability to understand things
  • Concentration levels, e.g. ADHD
  • Physical needs or impairments

These needs can be associated with a range of disabilities and conditions, which include:

  • Autism (ASD) and Asperger’s
  • ADHD and challenging behaviour
  • Speech, language and communication needs
  • PMLD (Profound & Multiple Learning Difficulties)

Pupils with such needs are often eligible for an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), which is a legal document that sets out a description of each child’s needs and a plan to meet those needs by education, health and social care.

Whether working within a dedicated SEN or mainstream school, class sizes are typically smaller with around 6-8 pupils, with a higher staff-to-pupil ratio than a typical classroom. SEN environments suit and require individuals with a genuine passion and interest in SEN, able to navigate through the daily challenges faced.

Supporting children who have been identified as having special educational needs or requiring additional support is increasingly in demand. Our specific SEN roles range from in-class support through to the management team.

If you're looking to secure a long-term or permanent position as an SEN specialist, register your interest today.
